Design Studio Manager
Job Description
The Design Studio Manager is a pivotal leadership role responsible for the seamless integration of design excellence, commercial viability, and operational efficiency. You will oversee the day-to-day operations of the design studio, managing high-value architectural projects from concept through to IFC and authority approval. As the primary point of contact for clients and a mentor to the design team, you will ensure high-quality deliverables, implement design improvement measures, and foster a culture of continuous learning and development.
Candidate Requirements
Experience & Education
* Total Experience: 15+ years in Architecture and Design Management.
* Regional Experience: 10+ years of experience within the UAE market is highly preferred.
* Leadership Experience: Minimum of 5+ years in a similar Studio Manager or Senior Design Management role.
* Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture.
Skills & Competencies
* Architecture & Design: Extensive experience across all design stages with a strong portfolio of completed projects.
* Authority Knowledge: Deep understanding of UAE building codes and authority submission portals (e.g., Dubai Municipality, Trakhees).
* Communication: Exceptional leadership and client-fronting skills; ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams.
* Technical Tools: Proficiency in industry-standard design software (Revit/BIM, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.).
Responsibilities Duties:
Project Planning & Strategic Management
* Workflow Optimization: Develop comprehensive project work plans, schedules, deliverable trackers, and milestone programs.
* Performance Tracking: Maintain a Project Controls Dashboard to monitor scope, budget, timelines, and resource allocation.
* Leadership: Supervise and guide all Project Managers and Design Managers to ensure departmental alignment.
* Interdisciplinary Coordination: Lead the integration of internal teams, including Architecture, Structure, MEP, Landscape, and Interior Design (ID).
Client & Stakeholder Management
* Primary Liaison: Act as the face of the studio, leading regular project meetings and managing client expectations.
* Feedback Integration: Ensure client feedback is effectively communicated to the team and incorporated into designs without compromising project integrity.
Design Oversight & Technical Excellence
* Full Lifecycle Management: Oversee all design stages: Concept, Schematic, Detailed Design, and IFC.
* Compliance & QA/QC: Implement rigorous Quality Assurance and Quality Control procedures to ensure all deliverables meet international standards and local regulations.
* BIM Leadership: Ensure effective Building Information Modeling (BIM) implementation and best practices across all projects.
* Technical Guidance: Provide strategic and technical mentorship to resolve complex architectural challenges.
Authority Submissions & Approvals
* Regional Expertise: Navigate and oversee submission processes for local authorities, including Dubai Municipality, DDA, Trakhees, and others.
* Tracking: Proactively track comments and approvals to mitigate delays in the construction pipeline.
Team Leadership & Development
* Mentorship: Support and mentor junior architects and project coordinators, fostering professional growth.
* Resource Management: Assign tasks and monitor productivity to ensure all deadlines are met with precision.
* L&D Strategy: Structure internal systems and lead monthly learning and development workshops to keep the staff at the forefront of industry trends.
Risk Management & Reporting
* Mitigation: Anticipate potential project risks or delays and propose proactive mitigation strategies.
* Reporting: Prepare and present weekly progress reports to senior management and clients, highlighting progress versus agreed timelines.
