Job Description

The Advanced Practice Provider - CCU Intensivist is responsible for providing high-acuity clinical care, stabilization, and diagnostic monitoring for critically ill patients within the Intensive Care and Critical Care Units. Operating in collaboration with attending Intensivists, this role ensures the successful execution of advanced physiological tracking, invasive procedures, and immediate crisis management to sustain patient life and optimize recovery.

Required Qualifications * Master’s or Doctoral degree from an accredited Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) program.

  • Active, unencumbered Advanced Practice Provider (PA or CRNP) licensure in the state of Alabama.

  • National Board Certification (such as AGACNP-BC for NPs or NCCPA with critical care focus for PAs) paired with active ACLS and BLS.

Preferred Skills * Advanced mastery of critical care medicine, mechanical ventilation pathways, and vasoactive medication titrations.

  • Exceptional resilience, rapid spatial decision-making, and structural leadership within high-stress clinical environments.

Experience Required 2+ years of dedicated professional experience as an APP operating within an active Intensive Care Unit, Trauma Core, or Cardiac Care Center.

Responsibilities Duties:

Key Responsibilities * Coordinate and execute daily clinical rounds, comprehensive physical assessments, and complex diagnostic reasoning in critical care environments.

  • Prepare individualized critical care management plans, ordering dynamic laboratory testing, blood gas distributions, and imaging arrays.

  • Perform essential critical care procedures including central line insertions, arterial lines, intubations, and ventilator parameter adjustments under protocol.

  • Coordinate with attending critical care physicians, ICU nursing staff, respiratory therapists, and specialized surgical cohorts.

  • Monitor continuous hemodynamic parameters and multi-system telemetry, promptly addressing sudden physiological decline or cardiac arrests.

  • Maintain strict adherence to electronic medical record (EMR) charting benchmarks, ensuring clear medical necessity documentation.
